FDOT Announces Second Phase of Critical Infrastructure Project Accelerations

~ More than 40 projects expedited by at least 650 total contract days ~

TALLAHASSEE, Fla. – Under the direction of Governor Ron DeSantis, the Florida Department of Transportation (FDOT) announced a second phase of critical infrastructure projects that have been accelerated throughout the state. Due to continued lower traffic volumes as a result of COVID-19, FDOT expedited more than 40 critical transportation projects by at least 650 total contract days, while also providing essential jobs to Floridians.

“FDOT is proud to continue implementing Governor DeSantis’ forward-thinking directive to accelerate crucial transportation projects and more swiftly enhance the state’s overall transportation system,” said Florida Department of Transportation Secretary Kevin J. Thibault, P.E. “The transportation industry is vital to our economy and is essential as we move forward to re-open Florida. We will continue to accelerate projects as much as possible, while also incorporating the CDC’s safety and sanitation guidelines.”

Following a review of all pending construction projects across all FDOT districts, including the Florida Turnpike Enterprise, FDOT has identified the following additional projects, by region, to be accelerated:

Northwest Florida

• The resurfacing of SR 30A (US 98) from Transmitter Road to SR 30 will be accelerated by 1 week.

• The sidewalk project on SR 30 from E. Lakeshore Dr. to Portside Dr. will be accelerated by 1 week.

• The resurfacing of SR 77 from the end of curb to south of Washington County Line in Bay County will be accelerated by 30 days.

• The widening and resurfacing of SR 368A from east of Moody Ave. to west of SR 368 in Bay County will be accelerated by 21 days.

• The resurfacing of SR 95 from south of CR 184 to SR 97 in Escambia County will be accelerated by 10 days.

• The painting of steel superstructure components and replacement of steel members on the CR 270A Bridge in Gadsden County will be accelerated by 70 days.

•  The resurfacing and drainage improvements of SR 79 in Holmes County will be accelerated by 2 weeks.

• The resurfacing and sidewalk work on SR 276 from CR 10A to south of SR 10 in Jackson County will be accelerated by 1 week.

• The resurfacing of SR 20 B-Town Hwy, milling and resurfacing, and various improvements in Leon County will be accelerated by 10 days.

• The resurfacing and intersection improvements of SR 263 (US 319) Capital Circle at Stoneler Road in Leon County will be accelerated by 1 week.

• The resurfacing of SR 4 from Escambia Rv. Bridge to CR 87A in Santa Rosa County will be accelerated by 2 weeks.

• The widening of SR 30 from Emerald Bay Dr. to Tang-O-Mar Dr. in Walton County will be accelerated by 2 weeks.

Northeast Florida

• The SR 200 capacity improvement project between Rubin Davis Lane to O’Neill Scott Road will be accelerated by 2 months.

• The SR 115 Arlington Expressway sidewalk project will be accelerated 2 to 3 weeks early.

East Central Florida

• Intersection improvements on SR A1A/SR 520 in Brevard County will be accelerated by 1 week.

• The resurfacing of SR 472 from US 17-92 to west of I-4 in Volusia County will be accelerated by 1 week.

• The resurfacing of SR 200 from 60th Ave. to CR 484 in Marion County will be accelerated by 1 week.

• The widening and rehabilitation of SR 414 from I-4 to CR 427 in Orange County will be accelerated by 1 week.

• The resurfacing of SR 551 from south of SR 50 to SR 426 in Orange County will be accelerated by 1 month.

West Central Florida

• Operational improvements on I-275 from west of SR 60 (Exit 39) to Lois Ave. (Exit 40B) in Hillsborough County will be accelerated by 60 days.

• Intersection lighting improvements on SR 688, SR 586 and SR 580 at various locations in Pinellas County will be accelerated by 1 week.

• Intersection lighting improvements on SR 688 between Hamlin Boulevard in Largo and Feather Sound Drive in St. Petersburg in Pinellas County will be accelerated by 1 week.

• Intersection lighting improvements on SR 586 between Alt 19/Bayshore in Dunedin and Tampa Road in Oldsmar in Pinellas County will be accelerated by 1 week.

• The I-75 repaving from the Manatee County Line to CR 672 in Hillsborough County will be accelerated by 1 month.

• The diverging diamond interchange improvement project in Pasco County will be accelerated by 2 weeks.

• The widening and reconstruction of US 19 from Jump Court to Fort Island Trail in Citrus County will be accelerated by 2 weeks.

Southwest Florida

• Signal pole foundations, signal poles and roadway work on US 301 at Rutland Road in Manatee County will be accelerated by 3 weeks.

• Signal pole foundations, signal poles and roadway work on SR 37 at Edgewood Drive in Polk County will be accelerated by 1 month.

• The resurfacing of SR 776 from Spinnaker Blvd. to Sunnybrook Blvd. in Charlotte County will be accelerated by 2 weeks.

• The resurfacing of SR 43 from 2nd Avenue to west of 51st Avenue in Manatee County will be accelerated by 2 weeks.

• The safety project on US 301 at Erie Road and Old Tampa Highway in Manatee County will be accelerated by 2 weeks.

Southeast Florida

• The I-75 project between the Miami-Dade County Line to Sheridan Street in Broward County will be accelerated by 1 week.

• The bridge-repair/rehabilitation at the I-75 northbound ramp at NW 138 Street in Miami-Dade will be accelerated by 2 months.

• Bridge painting at SR 90/US-41/Brickell Avenue over the Miami River in Miami-Dade will be accelerated between 2 to 3 weeks.

• The added turn lanes project at Hialeah Gardens Boulevard from W 80 Street to W 84 Street/NW 138 Street in Miami-Dade will be accelerated between 1 to 2 weeks.

• Rigid pavement reconstruction, bridge replacement, widening, and interchange improvements on SR 9A/I-95 from NW 29 Street to NW 79 Street, SR 836/I-395/from I-95 to Macarthur Bridge, SR 9A/I-95/from NW 8 Street to NW 29 Street, and SR 9A/I-95/SB ramp to WB SR 836 in Miami-Dade will be accelerated by 4 weeks.

• The intermodal hub capacity project at the Golden Glades Multimodal Transportation Facility will be accelerated between 2 to 4 weeks.

• The pedestrian safety improvement project on SR 934/Normandy Drive at Rue Vendome in Miami-Dade will be accelerated by 2 weeks.

• The SR 112/I-195 ramp project at Alton Road in Miami-Dade will be accelerated by 1 to 2 weeks.

• The SR 847/NW 47 Avenue project from N or NW 199 Street to Premier Parkway/N of Turnpike in Miami-Dade will be accelerated by 1 week.

• The intersection improvement on SR 7/NW 2 Avenue from NW 7 Avenue to NW 179 Street in Miami-Dade will be accelerated by 2 to 3 weeks.

• The resurfacing and intersection improvements on SR 5/US 1/S. Dixie Highway from E of SW 27 Avenue to I-95 and SR 5/US 1 at SW 22 Avenue in Miami-Dade will be accelerated by 2 weeks.

• The flexible pavement reconstruction project on SW 312 Street/Campbell Drive from SR 997/Krome Avenue to SR 5/US 1 in Miami-Dade will be accelerated between 4 to 6 weeks.

• The intersection lighting on SR 81/NW 27 Avenue from NW 215 Street to SR 9 and SR 9/NW 27 Avenue from NW 50 Street to NW 22 Avenue in Miami-Dade will be accelerated by 1 week.

• Resurfacing of the Turnpike mainline in St. Lucie county will be accelerated by more than 2 weeks.
